Following a skin care regimen that includes the use of a night cream contributes to good and long lasting skin health. Night creams are basically moisturizers that replenish the skin of its much-needed nutrients while it is rejuvenating. A night cream with the right nutrients will be completely absorbed and will repair the damaged cells efficiently.

When should a night cream be applied?
A night cream is usually applied at the end of the day before going to bed. It has to be done religiously as part of a daily skincare routine to nourish and protect the skin. A night cream has to be applied only after removing makeup, if any, and cleansing the face of all impurities and patting it dry. Any cream is effective only when the face is clean, as oil and grim may prevent the cream from getting absorbed into the skin properly.

How to apply a night cream?
One must take a liberal amount of cream and dot it all over the face and neck and must massage it in gently for a few minutes in an upward motion to improve the blood circulation. This will allow the cream to be absorbed by the skin completely.

One should also note that the neck area has to be taken care of as it is also exposed to the sun. Depriving the neck area of skincare treatments may result in a stark contrast between the complexion and texture of the skin on the face and of that on the neck.

Homemade night creams
Apart from buying night creams at the store, one can prepare their own night creams from natural ingredients at home. This especially holds true for people who are allergic to certain ingredients and chemicals found in night cream products.

Some examples of natural night creams are:

  • Olive oil moisturizing night cream: This is prepared by mixing olive oil and coconut oil along with the gel essence of vitamin E capsules. Olive oil moisturizes the skin while vitamin E rejuvenates the skin cells.
  • Aloe vera night cream: This is prepared by mixing aloe vera extract with primrose oil and lavender oil. It nourishes the skin and keeps it smooth, soft and youthful.
  • Revitalizing apple night cream: This is prepared by blending small pieces of apple with olive oil. The mixture has to be heated in a boiler and not on a direct flame. After it becomes warm, rose water is added to it and it allowed to cool down. It can be a wonderful night cream as it is enriched with apples that are rich in vitamin A and antioxidants. It helps in slowing down aging and makes the skin younger.
  • Skin lightening night cream: This is prepared by using almonds, turmeric, yogurt, sandalwood powder, and saffron. This helps in removing blemishes and pigmentations from the skin and brightens the complexion with regular use.
