Most of us take our skin and hair for granted and do not take care of them until they start deteriorating. Sometimes, despite the utmost of care, people may still experience hair loss at a young age. On the other hand, most males and a few females experience hair loss and balding issues with growing age.

Thankfully, there are various medications and treatments that you help resolve hair loss problems. One of the best treatments for hair loss or baldness is a hair transplant. Hair transplant is a surgical procedure which is permanent and low maintenance.

Procedure
The procedure of hair transplant starts with the cleaning of the scalp and then, numbing the area where the procedure will be performed with the use of anesthesia. There are two types of techniques, through which the surgeon can obtain hair follicles.

The two techniques are:

  • Follicular unit transplantation
In this procedure, the surgeon makes an incision on the scalp and cuts out a part of it. This incision is usually made at the back of the head and is several inches long. After this, the scalp is divided into several sections and the skin is transplanted on the bald patches of the scalp. These incisions are sewed after the operation or hair transplant surgery. Since the scalp is divided into sections, the skin implanted looks like natural hair growth. It is difficult to distinguish between natural hair growth and transplanted hair.
  • Follicular unit extraction
Follicular unit extraction, also known as FUE, transplants the hair follicles directly from the back of the head to the balding areas with the help of lots of tiny incisions. After this step, the surgeon will make many small incisions in the balding area with either a blade or a needle. The surgeon will then place the hair in the holes that are made in the recipient area of the scalp.

This type of technique is performed in several sessions in intervals. In the first session, the surgeon will transplant thousands of hairs in those holes. After the transplantation procedure, the surgeon will cover that area with the bandage or gauze for some days so that it transplants completely and heals. The follicular unit extraction requires about four hours for completion. Ten days after the completion of the surgery, the stitches will be removed and you may be asked to come for another session after a few months. You will need about three to four sessions to complete the procedure properly. Although slow, this procedure is effective.

Depending on your hair type and your receding hairline, a doctor might suggest any two of the abovementioned methods. It is important to take a second opinion before you start with any procedure.
