It is an unfortunate situation for one to have lymphoma in any capacity. Nevertheless, it is very important that we are aware of lymphoma and the various types of lymphoma. Lymphoma is a cancer that begins in cells that fight infection within the immune system. Those cells are in such places such as the lymph nodes, bone marrow and other parts of the body. The signs and symptoms of lymphoma include swelling in the lymph nodes, persistent fatigue, fever and night sweats.

Different types of lymphoma include the following:

1. B-cell lymphoma
This type of lymphoma is a type of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The treatment of this lymphoma is dependent on the subtype of this disease. There are various subtypes. The most common is Diffuse large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL) While treatable, it is an aggressive form of cancer that involves lymph nodes and organs. Another subtype of this lymphoma is mantle cell lymphoma. This cancer starts in the lymph nodes, bone marrow and gastrointestinal system.

2. T-cell lymphoma
This lymphoma is a type of cancer that forms in T-Cells or known as T lymphocytes. This is a cancer that is rare and hard to diagnose. Some subtypes of this lymphoma include the angioimmunoblastic T-Cell lymphoma (AITL). It’s a slow-grade lymphoma that behaves like it’s a fast-grade lymphoma. Another form of this lymphoma is anaplastic large cell lymphoma. (ALCL). It’s a type of lymphoma in which the cancerous cells look large, abnormal and very undeveloped when put under a microscope.

3. Burkitt’s lymphoma
This lymphoma is a form of Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in which cancer starts in immune cells called a B-cells. It is associated with impaired immunity. It’s a disease named after a British surgeon named Dennis Burkitt. He discovered this rare disease in Africa in 1956. Burkitt’s Lymphoma is common among HIV patients and among young kids who have malaria and Epstein-Barr syndrome.

4. Follicular lymphoma
Follicular lymphoma is a cancer that affects white blood cells. With this type of lymphoma, the sick blood cells can travel to many of your body parts. Some of those body parts include organs and bone marrow. It can also form lymph nodes in your neck and groin. This type of lymphoma is chronic and incurable. However, it is possible that one can live a long life with it.

5. Mantle cell lymphoma
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare cancer of the lymphoid cells. This cancer is derived from the outer rim or mantle lymphoid follicle. It is an aggressive form of Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. A common denominator among those with this type of lymphoma is the overproduction of a protein by the name of Cyclin D1. It is found in 90% of MCL patients. Additionally, 25% to 50% of MCL patients have higher than normal amounts of certain proteins that circulate in the blood. Two of these particular proteins include lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and beta-2 microglobulin.
